Wondering where I have been and why my blog posts have not been as prolific as in the past? Well, my book My Private Sessions Intimate Secrets to Unlock Your Potential is about to be published. Thanks for hanging in there and coming back.
As the “Going to press” date loomed closer, a fear popped up, the “Fear of Success,” or is it? Just yesterday I heard someone talk about the fear of success/fear of failure syndrome that we have all bought into and used as an excuse as to why we don’t have what want in our lives. Actually, as you will discover when you read my book, our supposed “Fear of Success” is just our feeling of insecurity about being outside of our comfort zone. Now, doesn’t that make sense? As a successful author and speaker, I have a new and looming responsibility. Who will I be when I am standing up on stage in front of audiences of thousands of people? What if someone asks me a question I don’t know the answer? How will I LOOK? Now everyone will know the intimate details about my financial struggles, humiliation, abuse, embarrassments, defeats and triumphs. What will they think of me? Will they like me?
Have you had similar thoughts about how you will look? Will people like you; and how will you handle your responsibilities when have that prize you are after? Think about the times you have begun to move toward real success – clients were lining up, you started getting more and more contracts signed, your goal of actually having one of your big goals met was at hand ….… and then it happened. You didn’t make that follow up call, or made a faux pas and said something that offended a client or showed up an hour late to a very important meeting or forgot to send the document. Recall the number of potential Olympic winners or all-most-won Super Bowls or NBA Championships where the track star pulled a hamstring too close to the Olympics to recover in time to make the cut, the skier missed the final gate, the extra-point-kick missed the goal post and the free throw basketball hit the rim, not once, but three times. When you are not emotionally ready to win and step out of your comfort zone, no amount of practice will get you the job, the medal, the income that you want.
Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone
Stepping out of your comfort zone is about taking responsibility for yourself and the life you are creating in a new and more meaningful way.
