Who is Cheering You On
When all the red, white and blue confetti is swept up, yard signs put away, and routine day in and day out reality kicks in, we realize it is up to us to make the difference in our lives. Who is cheering you on? Who keeps you going when you don’t the get the “vote” of approval from your clients.
“Be your own good mother and your own good father,” is how Patricia Sun, philosopher, ethicist, leader, innovator, and communication expert of a new way to live used to put it back when I met her in the 70s. What she means by that is rather than look for the cheering crowd outside ourselves for approval and encouragement, look within. Give yourself the nurturing, support, care and compassion that a mature, loving mother and father would give.
So often when the rough seas hit of disappointment, inconsistent income and elusive clients , we abandon ourselves and find more and more wrong with us. Rather than abandon ourselves in the moment that we need ourselves the most, keep your life jacket on and keep rowing for shore.
What Pleases You
Build on your successes by asking yourself, “What please me about how I handled …. the potential client not showing for their appointment?” “Well, I went home stayed focused on tasks at hand that are leading me toward my goals.” Allow yourself to breathe in the good feeling of the action you took no matter how seemingly small so that your body can register “Good enough. Good Eough. Good Enough.” Note that as you support yourself, little by little ideas begin to flow. As you shift your mindset, you start to feel better about you again. Renewed, you can move forward to your next step and blast past procrastination.
What Displeases You
The information gained from asking the question, “What displeases you?” can be used to just guide you as to what you would do differently next time. It is a gentle reminder of areas you might need to develop to feel more confident and secure in your approach or in who you are.
