Compelling Vision to Pull You Forward
Your Compelling Vision can be the carrot to keep you moving forward toward your goal. It is the carrot not the stick that will ultimately prevail. Without a Compelling Vision for your company and life, you can feel like you are stumbling around in the dark and not sure what to do next.
Some days you may not even want to get up because you aren’t sure what you’re supposed to do that day. Other days, you get a glimpse of what is possible and you are unstoppable! The challenge is consistency. Without a consistent, concerted effort, progress is all but impossible. Self-doubt and “Why bother” are bound to crop up.
Your Compelling Vision is the carrot that lures you to keep moving, to develop your talents, abilities and gifts (TAGs) as you delight in reaching your goal. It is what springs you out of bed in the morning as you focus on “what do I need to next to bring me closer to my vision?”
Engage Your Heart
It is not about the How. The How is not your business. It is not about what is practical nor even what makes sense. Your job is to suspend all logic and to engage your heart. What would your business look like, feeeeeel like if it was functioning at its highest level, reaching your ideal audience and bringing you fulfillment and satisfaction?
To allow yourself to feeeel your highest Vision, you want to write the “Outcome of the Outcome” as Henriette Ann Klauser says in Write it Down Make It Happen. It is not about the money – although that is very nice and allows you to have many fabulous experiences – It is about actualizing YOU. You get to give yourself the chance to bring to fruition your Life’s Purpose – your ultimate creative expression of who you are!
The Outcome of the Outcome comes from writing down not just the What but the WHY you want it. To do this you need to suspend reality and all feasibility and dive deep into you and how you want to feeeel when you and your business is functioning at its highest level.
All Ready Happened
Write as if it already happened. Write in the present tense. To get you started:
- What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
- Imagine success is guaranteed with no limits on time or money
- What brings you excitement and energy?
- If it was an animal, what would it be? Why?
- If it was a color (s), what would it be? Why?
- What kind of music would it be?
- What surrounds you when your Vision is realized? Where are you? Who is with you?
- What fills your heart when you think about what has happened over the past __years?
- What will achieving your Vision make possible for you?
- Why is this important for you?
- Now make your vision 1000 times bigger and 100 times easier. Anything is possible. Go for it.*
What TAG Expressed
What will make it possible for you to experience this Vision? What piece of you will be expressed in the doing? What aspects of your Talents, Abilities and Gifts (TAGs) do you get to develop and mature to a new level? Ah, the excitement in fully expressing who you are and having fun, making money and leaving a footprint on the earth.
Take that Vision and say, “because of (earning 10K a month) I will…” and “because of (traveling to with my family) I will…” “because of (feeling more connected and fulfilled) I will…(have more time to give to my favorite charity) ” It is about the how you feeeeeel when all is said and done that makes life worth living. By focusing on the effects of your Vision rather than on the achievement of the Vision, you keep the energy flowing, the excitement of the process alive. “Oh, goodie what do I get to do today to bring me closer to feeling__________and seeing_________!”
Double check. Did you write your Vision in the present tense as if it has already happened? Breathe in the feeling you have as you see yourself enjoying the effects of your Vision. Allow it it to permeate your body and course through your veins.
Read your Vision each day for a 100 days, preferably right before you go to sleep so your brain has time to delight in this expression of who you are. When you look back a few years from now, you may say, “Ah, that’s right. I did write all this down January 2014!” As Mrs. Disney responded about Walt’s Vision for the Magic Kingdom and the Castle when someone said, “Too bad Walt never got to see it.” She responded, “Oh no. He saw it everyday!”
