When I was a yacht broker in Annapolis, MD in 2001, the economy was down (little did we know what was coming). It was the end of October and when my colleagues would walk past the Deal Board that listed when boat sales closing would be they’d say, “This is a terrible time to sell boats, what with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming and did you see the paper? The economy tanked.” I would breeze by on my way out the door to show another boat and say, “I think this is a Great Time to sell boats!” About 6 weeks later, three of us stood before the Deal Board. My co-worker, Neal wryly admitted, “Well, I guess Marty thought this was a good time to sell boats.” I had 10 deals posted to the board, pending to close in December and January. He had one.
